Daughter of a Soil
I'm going to take alittle bit time here to give thanks for the land and the soil I've lived for in the past 17 years, Malaysia.
Dear Malaysia,
It's your 50th birthday! Growin' an extra eye bag? Or more green hills? It seems as if yesterday that one of your famous sons decided to break you free from the Anglo Colonial Rule, and with his followers he decided to make you a nation, an independent country. On the stand in Dataran Merdeka, where thousands of your little children awaits his cry, his roar of freedom, seven times in all, the word that word truly means one, and that one is Merdeka, freedom. A country so unique, where various races inter-collide with one another and coexistence spreads among each and every individual, where one race lives in harmony with another. A country where every five years, your 9 royal princes (or what we call, Sultans) votes for one sultan and the elected becomes the Paramount or Supreme Ruler, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
What I love about you most is the many worlds that you have created in this country. The abundant fruits and animals living in the tropicals, the historic site of where your elder sons tried to regain your name but was defeated by the Portuguese centuries ago, the nightlife and food and mamak stalls, and technically, nothing comes between me and Char Kuey Teow, mind you! The morning and night stalls. All in all, there are worlds within worlds living in our country. And truly, your world means the WORLD to me!
I wanna give thanks to my grandparents, for being the living legend in my life, my family, for reminding me of where I come from, my friends, for giving me comfort and a shoulder to lean on, and most of all, to all Malaysian, for as they say, making our country a One Nation, One Legacy, and One Destiny! Thank You Malaysia!
Happy Merdeka, Malaysia!

Much love,
Sara.
